New to Soccer?

Soccer is one of the easiest and least expensive sports to start. Here's what to know.
  • Cost

Cleats, shin guards and soccer socks are the only gear to buy before joining a team. Recreational soccer costs a fraction of competitive club play and private training.

  • Easy to learn

With few stoppages, there's lots of time and space for free play and creativity. Only a couple of rules, like offside, take any learning.

  • Great exercise

Soccer builds endurance and agility. A professional player runs about 7 miles in a game.

  • Loved worldwide

The world's most popular sport, played in nearly every country. FIFA counts over 250 million players, and the 2022 World Cup final drew about 1.4 billion viewers.

  • Injuries

The most common soccer injuries are ankle and knee sprains and strains. Serious injuries are more common at higher levels, and recovery times tend to be shorter than in other team sports.
