TEAM MANAGEMENT TIPS
LBYSO Recreational coaches are encouraged to seek out help to avoid carrying the entire load themselves.
- Pick a practice day/time/location convenient for yourself but also convenient for the greatest number of team parents.
- Recruit another parent to act as Team Parent/Team Manager to handle side duties like uniform pickup, team banner, game day snack schedule, picture day, etc. Team Managers will be required to complete a background check and a SafeSport course. All fees are reimbursed.
- We HIGHLY suggest recruiting another parent, friend or family member to help as an assistant coach. This can be very helpful with schedule conflicts. Assistant coaches are required to complete a background check and undergo the same coaching certifications.
- LBYSO typically issues a limited amount of equipment. Consider what other equipment you might need – goal(s), extra balls, practice jerseys/pinnies, etc. Don’t be shy about asking parents to pitch in for the basics. Tell players bring a ball to practice.
- Create a group chat via Playmetrics or text messaging with your team as soon as possible to establish regular communication.
